Pranada Comtois teaches Bhakti’s Wise-Love: the practice of living and loving unconditionally. She illuminates this practice in her new book Wise-Love: Bhakti and the Search for the Soul of Consciousness (Inword Publishers, 2016)
Pranada lived for 20 years as a contemplative-ascetic in the ancient Bhakti tradition. She then spent the following 20 years raising a family and running two multi-million dollar businesses dedicated to teaching practical spirituality in the world.
Her own teachings draw from both experiences, and she has published them in Integral Yoga, Rebelle Society, Elephant Journal, Tattooed Buddha, Journey of the Heart: An Anthology of Spiritual Poetry for Women and her own blog Little Ways of Being.
Pranada served as managing editor for the Bacopa Literary Review for five years. She is featured in the film Women of Bhakti as she was one of the first to speak up for gender harmony in the Bhakti tradition in the late 80’s, successfully organizing the first steps against gender injustice while publishing Priti-laksanam, a quarterly journal advocating women’s rights.
If you’re curious to know more . . .
I’ve led many lives. As an entrepreneur I founded and managed two multi-million dollar companies. My professional career was a side job. My real passion, for as long as I can remember, has been to pose existential questions and search for meaningful answers. I found my spiritual teacher, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, when I was sixteen years old.
For more than forty years I’ve nurtured and coaxed Bhakti and mantra-yoga as a spiritual path and approach to everyday life. In simple terms Bhakti is practicing heartfulness: cultivating unconditional love and employing its attendants generosity, compassion, discretion, forgiveness, wisdom, empathy, inclusiveness, justice and all traits that foster divine love.
Bhakti’s practice is capable of giving each of us expansive joy and profound communion with life and others.
Through my own practice, I discovered sustained ease and happiness unlike any prior experience garnered through years of rigorous meditation and ascetic practices. With the grounding perspective of self-acceptance and self-love, consciously, unconditionally loving others, our planet, and the divine has taken on new meaning, and given me a powerful sense of Self.
For twenty years I have assisted others reunite with their pure Self to realize their dreams, gain purpose, joy, improved relationships, and share their bountiful gifts with others.
Now I’m especially passionate about empowering women to take up our leading roles, especially in religious and spiritual circles, where genuine spirituality and feeling have too often been strangled by power/intellectual/mind (masculine) systems.
Heartfulness is required to regain humanity’s spiritual birthright, and women are in a strong position to change the world’s spiritual landscape and simultaneously ground and forward our effort for women’s rights in secular society.
The world’s heart is in a spiritual crisis. When we women spiritualize, energize, and command our feminine divine qualities (not imitate masculine qualities or think mundane feminine qualities are sufficient) we’ll be empowered to initiate change and co-create a different paradigm.
Women are wired to become generous masters of relationships and givers of love. Though left to our own devices, we are more likely to tap the limited, conditional, material side of this gift, rather than apply a divine perspective to our lives. When we women understand the power we hold as spiritual activists and the desperate need for us to come forward within spiritual and religious systems so authentic spiritual feeling, vitality, inspiration and insight can blossom in our everyday lives. Then we will usher in a post-modern Spiritual Renaissance.
This is the reason I write Little Ways of Being™. The complex questions of life, philosophy, psychology, religion, and spirituality–or how do I become happy and whole? are shrunk into a small puddle like the water in the hoof print of a calf. The tiny puddle is crossed through Little Ways of Being™, consciously, unconditionally loving ourselves, others, our environment, and the divine.
Through normal commerce with life–living in a 21st century Western world raising a family, pushing forward in a career, and other obligations, we can achieve liberation, enlightenment, self-realization, or whatever term you use to describe spiritual joy and ultimate human evolution with Wise-Love.
My intention is simple: exemplify a life of unconditional love by connecting with my spiritual self and the divine, and provide practical tools, resources, and helpful information for you to do the same.
I’m grateful for the chance to connect with you. Please stay in touch so we can share the journey and explore the depths of Bhakti. I’m on FaceBook and Twitter. And you can sign up for my newsletter here. I hope you join me and kindred spirits.
From my heart to yours,
